Drugstore Makeup Reviews

Rose

I'm a college student on a budget, so I don't have much of an interest in expensive makeup. This blog is mostly about inexpensive, good finds, like the cosmetics that compare to the expensive stuff. Products with the greatest value (except generic perfumes; I don't do knock-offs.

This isn’t drugstore makeup, but I think this is such a good deal. It’s a good Tarte eyelash curler and a sample mascara (Tarte Lights Camera Lashes! Mascara) for only 15 dollars at Sephora. Some drugstore makeup is that expensive, so I figured this wasn’t irrelevant for my blog. I also love this mascara and it really has lasted me. I have had it for a few months but I have barely started to wear it nearly everyday for several weeks already. It’s really not a bad deal at all. I really like the eyelash curler too.

The first picture is me with NO makeup, and the rest with nakeup. I included the no makeup picture so you can see the difference. That huge zit on my forehead seriously does not go away. So I wanted to show yall how the L’oreal magic skin beautifier bb cream looks on my skin. I really like it. It gives some coverage, but some of my acne scarring still shows through. I like it though. I have a birthmark on my cheek, and I cover that with Hard Candy glamoflauge concealer. It’s a heavy duty concealer, seriously. I don’t like it for my under eyes because it’s too heavy and creases though. I prefer a thinner concealer for my under eye circles.

Anyway, just wanted to show you all how it looks on my combination oily/dry acne-prone skin. This semester my chin seriously broke out all over, and Neutrogena acne control stress power clear scrub and Clean and Clear astringent has really been helping, which is why I want a lighter coverage makeup for the rest of the semester.

Wearing this foundation in this picture. As you can see, some of my acne scarring shows through, but it doesn’t look too bad. It applies sooo silky and thin! It is very easy to blend. Everyone says that this foundation looks natural and looks more like skin. That’s what I want. What do you think?

Oh, wearing rimmel stay matte powder on top. I want to try the Maybelline dream wonder powder. Anyone tried it?

Sorry for the crappy pictures, but I wanted to show you how the Maybelline Pure bb cream looks on my skin. As you can see, some of my acne scars do show, but there is still some coverage. I also used a little bit of Hard Candy glamoflauge concealer on that huge zit on my forehead, Rimmel stay matte pressed powder on top of the bb cream, and some bronzer/blush.

I got these because I have been wanting something lighter for my skin since my acne has been clearing up (Neutrogena oil-free acne stress control power-clear scrub and Clean and Clear astringent has been amazing for my skin!) and it’s summer. I was using Revlon colorstay foundation because it covered my acne, but it is kinda hard to wash off since it’s so long wearing. I love it though. My acne is healing though so I want something lighter and moisturizing because acne products dry out your skin. Plus, even if you have oily skin, it’s important to keep your skin hydrated! Anyway.

They are both light coverage, but the Loreal bb cream gives a little more coverage than the Pure bb cream on my skin. The Loreal bb cream comes out white but adheres to your skin color when rubbed in. There are like 5 shades I believe (correct me if I’m wrong)? I like it a lot, but the lightest shade is a tiny bit darker than my skin. It doesn’t rub off or anything though. I do use Rimmel stay matte powder on top. It’s a decent bb cream.

So I got the maybelline pure bb cream because if the acne medication. I haven’t been wearing it long enough to see if it works for that. It has pretty light coverage and isn’t drying on my skin, fortunately. I have only worn this twice though, and I’m kinda iffy about it, but I’ll give a better review for it after I wear it for a while.

Just got this foundation because I have been wanting something more natural looking. Haven’t been wearing it long enough to give a few review, but I can say that it applies so silky and is so easy to blend!

It’s important to note that I have combination oily/dry acne prone skin.

So a dewy look is preferred in the summer, which can be hard to achieve if you wear full coverage foundation and powder. That usually gives a more matte look, and some of us have such oily faces that we need to wear some powder over our foundation. Unfortunately powder can make your skin look, well, powdery. I use a facial mist to combat that powdered/cakey look, which also makes your skin more dewy. E.L.F.’s mist and set spray. It has cucumber and aloe, so it is hydrating and ideal for a dewy look. I don’t think that it makes my makeup last longer, but it is that final touch that sets my makeup. However, I find the following method worked best with a damp beauty blender sponge (London Soho has an excellent dupe for just 8-10 bucks at Walgreen’s):

I lightly spritz my face. Let it set for like 2 minutes (I usually skip this step though but it helps). I LIGHTLY bounce the sponge on my cheeks, forehead, and chin. Be very careful not to rub your foundation off; it’s important to pat your skin with the sponge lightly. I feel like the water makes the skin look more hydrated. I like to spritz my cheekbones just a TINY bit more because it gives them that highlighted look.

I also love Evian’s facial spray, but I don’t want to waste it because it is a little pricey (you can get 2 small cans for $15 at sephora - not a bad deal). It applies better than the E.L.F. because it comes in those hairspray type cans so the mist comes out very finely, while the E.L.F. bottle squirts out the liquid in huge bursts, which you need to be careful with because that can mess up your makeup if you spray too much. I like the light, fine mist the Evian spray gives, which is perfect for the face. There are other good setting sprays out there, but can be pricey. I recommend the hydrating types of sprays for a dewy look.

There is salt in the shampoo you used in pretty sure :/ I haven't found one drugstore shampoo without any salt in it.

Yeah, it’s hard to avoid certain ingredients in the drugstore :/

I have very thick and damaged hair.

I spent a few hours in a swimming pool yesterday, and chlorine is extremely drying on the hair. You can see how dry my hair was when I got out of the pool, which is th “before” photo. I showered and conditioned my hair with the Dove intensive repair conditioner and as soon as I washed it off, my hair felt so soft and silky. When I get out, I always apply leave-in conditioner, such as Garnier Fructis Intensely Smooth Leave-In Conditioning Cream. The second collage is the result. My hair does look softer now and it feels so nice and manageable.

Side note: Covergirl Outlast foundation is no joke. It stayed on in the pool.

Anonymous asked:

what primer will make the pinkiness on my face go away? i find that whatever foundation or powder i use the pink always shows through. and i dont like wearing a lot of makeup. i usually like using a mineral powder foundation.

Go for green-tinted primers a because green neutralizes and cancels out redness. Unfortunately there is a limited range of green-based primers in drugstores, but a few brands that sell them are L’oreal, Physician’s Formula, Boots No7.

Here is a review/demo for L’oreal’s green primer:

Anonymous asked:

do you think the maybelline fit me concealer in light (10) is yellow toned? im so bad at telling yellow or pink apart!

I think 10 is yellow toned. Supposedly the undertones vary for the Fit Me concealer. I think there are three yellow and three pink. The 15 shade is supposed to be on the pink side.

Exfoliating Pads

If you want a cheap way to exfoliate, get this! It’s only like 2 dollars. One side of it has these tiny bumps that help exfoliate the skin. I use this to rinse off my cleanser and it leaves my skin really smooth and clean. Moisturize after, just like you would after using any exfoliating product.

My Skin Care Routine

1. Neutrogena Naturals Fresh Cleansing Makeup Remover - $6 - $8

I really like this. I lather all over my face and it removes all my makeup, but I don’t use it on my eyes. I prefer to use either Neutrogena Eye Makeup remover or cheap makeup remover cloths to remove eye makeup. Anyway, this cleanser leaves my skin feeling clean. It doesn’t break me out or give me any negative side effects. Everyone’s skin is different though; I read some negative reviews — particularly from this one person who said that it irritated her super sensitive skin. But this product doesn’t give me any problems and I have sensitive skin. I also have combination/oily skin and am acne prone. One important thing though:

2. Exfoliating pads

Omg, these are amazing. I want to make a special post just for this product. If you want to exfoliate your skin really inexpensively, get this! They are like regular circular pads, but on one side they have little bumps that exfoliate your skin. I rinse my cleanser off with these pads. I have noticed that my skin is definitely improving. It really cleans my skin and removes all of that dead skin. It’s only like 2 dollars!

3. Acure Argon Oil

Amazing as well. Who knew you could treat oily skin with oil? And it doesn’t break me out at all! Moisturizing your skin after using a cleanser is pretty necessary if you don’t want your skin to dry out. It hydrates my skin and makes my skin feel so soft, while also fading imperfections and evens out my skin tone. It’s about 20 dollars on Amazon — much better than the $50 argon oils at Sephora.

4. Fruit of the Earth 100% Pure Aloe Vera

I have been using this for years and I swear by it. It has faded my acne scars and is great at healing my skin — especially acne. It tones down imflamed pimples and helps them heal faster. I sleep with this stuff on and either apply it all over my face (avoid under the eyes and eye area) or spot-treat. I like that this has no fragrance or weird chemicals. Warning: it stings the eyes the same way onion does.

I love this foundation. Can’t believe it took me so long to try it. It really does last long and provides medium to full coverage. I don’t like to layer on too much though. I unintentionally bought the one for normal/dry skin even though I have very oily skin but this still works great and I don’t get too oily. It stayed on ALL day and I didn’t touch up (though you might want to keep some blotting powder just in case). It also makes my blush and contour last much longer! Because of my oily skin, I have always had a problem with blush fading off fast but not with this foundation.

I really think this is my favorite liquid foundation ever. It doesn’t make me break out and doesn’t cake. The shade selection is decent. The next foundations I want to try are the Neutrogena skin clearing makeup and Rimmel matte foundation. I want to review loreal bb cream, covergirl outlast foundation soon. Problem is that I got the wrong shade of the covergirl outlast foundation so I don’t know if I can review it correctly.
